Tess Talks with her biggest inspiration, her mum

One of my biggest inspirations and heroes is my mum. She is beautiful from the inside out and has always instilled in us girls that we can be anything we want, whenever we want. At 54 she completed her interior architecture degree – a four-year process and a life-long dream. It’s never too late to go for what you want in life….

Q: Where were you born and raised?

A: Melbourne, Victoria.

Q: How did where you were raised influence your healthy habits?

A: My family wasn’t strictly healthy while I was growing up, however, I would say they had a healthy life in terms of living a happy, balanced life. For me I guess it started as I was involved in a lot of sport from when I was young and this translated into healthy eating, exercising and taking care of myself.

Q: What is one of your daily rituals?

A: I like to go for a run first thing in the morning.

Q: What are you currently working on?

A: I am currently working on getting better at balance poses in yoga and building up my Interior Architecture business.

Q: What is one of the biggest challenges you have faced in your life career-wise?

A: I would say the greatest challenge I have had is my inability to put my personal goals ahead of my family’s.

Q: What are some ways you handle stress and pressure?

A: Yoga is a big one for me. I discovered it when my family were sick and it provided a calming, balancing place for me to go to.

Q: What is your greatest strength?

A: Patience and compromising.

Q: What is your greatest weakness?

A: Patience and compromising.

Q: Who inspires you?

A: Women inspire me, constantly.

Q: What inspires you?

A: Life inspires me! The fact we are given a life to lead as we wish to is a gift.

Q: How is sustainability a part of your life?

A: My daughters will laugh, however, I try to lead a more simple life, free of excess stuff, things that I don’t need. I am also a lot more aware of shopping locally within our community.

Q: What is your biggest wellness indulgence?

A: For me, a wellness indulgence would be a facial or a massage, as I don’t always allow time for these things often enough. And raw cakes!

Q: What are your 3 clean, non-toxic beauty must haves?

A: I am not huge on beauty products as I try to keep things simple.

Q: What are your 3 wellness must haves?

A: Exercise, fresh air, water.

Q: What’s your ideal way to switch off?

A: Being down at our coastal holiday home and doing yoga.

Q: What are you currently reading, watching or listening to?

A: I love biographical stories/documentaries. Currently, I am reading a book by Maria Shriver called I’ve Been Thinking…

Q: Where is your favourite place to travel?

A: Anywhere warm and by the sea.

Q: What do you eat for breakfast in the morning?

A: Avocado toast.
