Co-founder of The Collective Management Mags Stewart has both a powerful business mind and a soft heart. Viewed as a mum to all that surround her, Mags is a free spirit who enjoys practicing tarot card readings, loves travelling the world, and is passionate about singing and songwriting.

Q: Where were you born and raised?

A: Canberra, ACT.

Q: What is one of your daily rituals?

A: Reading a book before I go to sleep so I don’t finish the day looking at a screen. I like to mix it up between contemporary writers and the classics. 

Q: How did where you were raised influence your healthy habits?

A: Canberrans like getting out into nature which is very accessible there and that has never left me. Going for long walks has been my one consistent activity my whole life, wherever I am.

Q: What are you currently working on?

A: Always working on The Collective. Growing a new business is like having another child.

Also writing and recording new music, which is my creative outlet.

Q: What is one of the biggest challenges you have faced in your life career wise?

A: Learning to trust my own judgement and follow my own path even when it doesn’t look like anyone else’s. That can come at a cost sometimes, as not everyone is going to be on board with my approach. I am okay with that now, whereas in the past I was far more concerned with consensus and external approval.

Q: What are some ways you handle stress and pressure?

A: By remembering that everything gets resolved eventually and that even if other people are losing their perspective or patience, I don’t need to lose mine.

I also love to have a bath in the evening into which I put botanicals like rosemary or frangipani or lavender that I have collected on my walks.

Q: What is your greatest strength?

A: My imagination.

Q: What is your greatest weakness?

A: Distractibility. 

Q: Who inspires you?

A: The list is very long. My kids, my clients, my business partner. Women who dare to forge a different path. At the moment I am fascinated by female musicians like Lou Doillon, Fiona Apple, Annie Lennox and Maybelle Carter.

Q: What inspires you?

A: Observing nature, reading, listening to great music-a lot of it created by people I know, which is wonderful. Travel is a huge inspiration – I love to be on the move, whether it’s internationally or within Australia.

Q: How is sustainability apart of your life?

A: I’m very awarer of conscious consumption. I try not to purchase anything new if I don’t really need, it, or it will not have a long and useful life with me. I’m trying really hard to make all my clothing purchases either from vintage sources or from an ethical company. Fast fashion is one of my pet hates.

Q: What is your biggest wellness indulgence?

A: Solitude. I need time away by myself or I feel like my brain will implode. I just bought myself a little camper van so that I can disappear overnight here and there. That’s medicine for me.

Q: What are your 3 clean – non toxic beauty must haves?

A: I have always been completely useless at purchasing beauty products or adhering to regimes, so I would have to say water, sleep and doing what makes me happy. My idea of beauty is when someone’s vibrancy radiates because they are living the right way for them.

Q: What are your 3 wellness must haves?

A: Intellectual stimulation, a beautiful environment around me, including living greenery and a sense of connection.

Q: Whats your ideal way to switch off?

A: Going for a walk at the end of the day to clear my head. Reading, writing, playing guitar, at which I am very bad because I just started, but it’s addictive!

Q: What are you currently reading, watching and or listening to?

A: Reading M Train by Patti Smith, watching Normal People and listening to Cardi B (always!)

Q: Where is your favourite place to travel?

A: Braidwood, a tiny country town in NSW. It’s everything I love to inhale – misty mornings, wild sunsets, woodsmoke in the evening. It has my heart.

Q: What do you eat for breakfast in the morning?

A: During the week: oats with blackberries, raspberries and cinnamon and many cups of tea.

Weekends: pancakes with my kids. Sometimes they even make them these days.
